She is a 1980 49ft Blue Ocean Trawler and named after my daughter: "Fien Liselot". Build in Lien Hwa Boat Yard (established in 1978). Lien Hwa Boat Yard builded boats for several OEM partners included Blue Ocean (Holland - power boats),
Little Harbor (US - sail boats), Marine Trader (US - power boats), Trade Winds (US - power boats).

how much do you budget for berthing this lovely boat each year in der Nederlands?
I do not like to be in (busy) marina's with people all around so from 1st of April until somewhere in November I am on anchor. In winter I pat app. € 950.00 incl water and shore power. But... a berth for a boat of my size whole year long will app be € 4,000.00
Ik heb je ff stop gezet Henk'Jan, ik durf het bijna niet meer te zeggen hoor..... Maar je zit een beetje mis met de werven daar. de eerste werf na de brug was vroeger "van der Giessen" de laatste werf in de noord is de IHC werf. Bij van der giessen werden i.d.d. marine schepen gebouwd nl mijnenvegers. Het stuk wat nu Oceanco is was het hellingen gedeelte van de werf. die hellingen zijn weg nu. De IHC werf was vroeger scheepswerf "Smit" zij bouwden klant specifieke drogelading schepen en zee slepers en ook bagger matteriaal. Hahahaha. ik ga nu maar niet de geschiedenis van deze werven uit de doeken doen, anders wordt het weer zo een mooi verhaal hey. hahahaha
De video had niet de intentie van een geschiedenisles, David. De herinneringen blijken door de jaren te zijn vertroebeld. ;-)

Hallo Henk-Jan, als je op 1 (een) motor vaart laat je de andere dan mee draaien op stationair toerental of schakel je hem volledig uit?
Doorgaans gaat deze volledig uit. Het is een vraag die vaak wordt gesteld, dus ik heb een copy/past antwoord: There are drives which heat up during 'freewheeling'. But... I have "Velvet" drives and the manual states: On the Velvet transmissions, passive turing of the prop shaft also turns the oil pump and no damage to the transmission can ensue. Freewheeling: "It has been determent bij tests and practical experience that all Velvet Drive Marine Transmissions can be freewheeled without risking damage in sailing or trolling applications." Caution should be taken to be sure that proper oil level is maintained during freewheeling as well as normal running. Freewheeling one propellor on a two engine boat at trolling speed will not cause damage to the transmission connected to the freewheeling propellor."

Hallo Henk Jan, die werf in Alblasserdam hete vd Giesen de Noord, ik ben geboren in Kinderdijk en heb mijn Bemetel diploma gehaald bij Smit Kinderdijk heet nu IHC, nu woon ik in Krimpen aan den IJssel.
Hete is af en toe fijn. Je bedoelt heette. I is van industriële h is van handels en de c is van combinatie. Na het RSV debacle zijn alle Ned. werven geherstructureerd (zo noemen ze dat) directeurtjes schuiven etc.

Hi, what are the rules for the use of Red Diesel? I have a Motor Cruiser, Aquanaut, and wish to travel to the Dutch waters, but currently have Red Diesel? Thanks
Red is forbidden as a fuel for recreational boaters. In whole of Europe. It’s a matter of customs since there is little to no tax on red. Our friend Google will help you out in this matter. BUT… when I as european visit foreign places and there is only red available, I must proof the reason of me using red. First the delivery slip and invoice of course and then video and film helps. For you as regular red user and not under one of the European flags, just keep proof of flagging that flag and all the invoices of red deliveries so you can proof. But again, this is just my interpretation, the websites of customs for sure tell you more about it.

There are English people who do speak some Dutch, Michael… he said with a smile. Us Dutchies have adapted foreign languages. The last couple of days I had people from Germany and France come up to me (in The Netherlands) asking questions in their own language. (Since Napoleon left we do not speak French anymore and the Germans have been kicked out in 1945. Still it seems that many of the present tourists think the own a piece of this land) AND instead of telling them to F.O. and learn English or Dutch first, I replied to them in their own language. In the Netherlands, the VTC, -lock and -bridge operators of the main spots, will respond in English and German.
We really like to hear the radio traffic even though it is in Dutch. :) It helps us learn Dutch. :) Hearing the traffic is educational from a navigational point of view so we are glad you left the radio conversations in the video. Perfectly understandable to NOT edit the video to put in the English translations. That is too much work. Your translations as it happens works just as well. We had a wonderful vacation in Dordrecht recently and it was very interesting to see parts of the city from the water. We were excited to recognize various places in the city. :)

My maths: 1 engine: 100% speed, 100% burn, 2 engines: 125% speed, 200% burn.
@@MVLadyLiselotI had understand you maths, but this is not like that. Because the RPM are the same, but the engine has not the same burn. Like a car, you can put a car on the highway on 150 with cruise control on the same RPM, but it is not the same burn when you go up or down the hill. So, when both engine on the same RPM, they burn less fuel because they “help each other”. The fuel burn with two engines is maybe a little bit higher, but bot so much. I have tested it on my boat multiple time. The big advance of drive on one engine is, the engine hours and the maintenance and thats why people often goes with one engine. Because the hydrodinamic of a boat with two engines is make for two engines, so the fuel burn can not be much more. When I go with my boat 6-7 knots, I have a fuel burn of about 1,5l/nm, when I go with one engine, I have a speed of about 5 knots and a fuel burn of about 1,2l/nm.

Hahaha dat ding is al een tijd lang in de hoek gelegd, Toen ze het idee hadden ben ik gevraagd of ik er aan mee wilde werken om de LASH baken waar ze op staat aan elkaar te lassen. Het was eigenlijk de bedoeling dat ze over zee kon worden versleept naar engeland - frankrijk het noorden en ook de middelandsezee......... Maar het was niet duidelijk hoe zwaar alles zou gaan worden en er was geen budget voor een goede constructie berekening en tekening. Ik heb dus maar bedankt voor die klus. volgens mij was het onmogelijk om met die dingen een zeewaardig vaartuig te maken en heb hen het hele project ontraden. Nu ligt ze daar omdat ze niet te vervoeren is. Einde verhaal. eigenwijze mensen.
Jij weet van veel dingen een geweldig verhaal te maken, David. De les voor mij is: mensen die een innerlijke drive hebben, zijn niet te stoppen. Helaas geldt dat (dus) ook als ze met onzinnige dingen bezig zijn.

Always number one eyeball is a priority, radar, echo sounder, GPS and cameras are an aid to your trip. It was one of the first things i was taught when i was training to go to sea. Great story telling. Thank you for a great video
Thnx, this eyeball thing is true. Even in docking I see everything on my screen, but still I stick my head out every time to check if what I see on the screen is what there is IRL. It always proof to be so, but nevertheless, next time again I stick my head out.

Het verhaal van de zondvloed is bekend in honderden culturen wereldwijd. De echte Ark, wat daarvan over is, ligt in Turkije in het Ararat gebergte en is een door de overheid erkende archeologische plek. De lengte van die boot komt exact overeen met de in de Bijbel beschreven lengte in Egyptische ellen. In de omgeving verwijzen plaatsnamen naar het zondvloedverhaal. Zelfs in de Chinese taal verwijzen sommige woorden rechtstreeks naar het zondvloedverhaal. Het woord voor schip (grote boot) bestaat uit drie tekens: Het getal 8, een mond / persoon en een boot. Maar het echte verhaal van de zondvloed, en van het evangelie van Jezus, gaat niet over een boze God die straft, maar over redding. De ark van Noach was dus de allereerste reddingsboot! Wees niet bang dat christenen zich beledigd voelen. Dat, en veel erger, is ons 2000 jaar geleden voorspeld, dat hoort erbij als je Jezus volgt, die overigens zelf ook graag een stukkie ging varen met zijn maten! Ik blijf je volgen Henk-Jan,, ik geniet erg van je video's en moedig je hierbij aan om nog meer te vertellen van de Bijbel!
De kans bestaat dat die verhalen vast wel komen, Joop. De zienswijze van een reddingsboot vind ik briljant; eerst je eigen chaos creëren en vernietigen/verzuipen wat je hebt geschapen, om vervolgens te roepen dat je (een ietsepietsie) deel van datgene wat je hebt gemaakt “toch hebt gered?!?…” (trek een verbaasd gezicht alsof hij de onschuld zelve is…). “Ja maar ik heb toch niet alles verzopen?”. Briljant. Als we daar op doorgaan: Daarmee klopt het wat er staat geschreven: ”We maken mensen naar ons beeld,” en daarmee ook doelend op gedrag, houding en moraal, want na dit voorbeeld van vernietiging en redding, hebben wij mensen dat kunstje vele malen overgedaan. We hadden nu eenmaal een goed voorbeeld. ;-)

Some believe their soccer club is the best, some believe their basketball club is the best, they even are willing to fight and loose a tooth or two. De vraag is dan ook: als ook jouw wieg 3000km oostelijker had gestaan, had jij dan dezelfde ‘kennis’ gehad, als je nu hebt? Als ik voor mezelf spreek zeg ik: “ik weet zeker van niet.”. Als je openstaat voor die suggestie, staat vanaf nu alles ter discussie. Dat kan erg confronterend zijn en ik merk dat velen die confrontatie niet aandurven. Vandaar mijn waarschuwing aan het begin van de video.

Hoi, terwijl je vaart met 1 motor aan. Dan beweegt de schroef(as) van die stilstaande motor natuurlijk wel mee. Wordt die dan wel genoeg gesmeerd, en watergesmeerd...
Yep, ik heb Velvet keerkoppeling en die zijn daar voor gemaakt. De koeling van motor en keerkoppeling zijn van elkaar gescheiden. Het waren de dualcoolers die vorig jaar zorgden voor het vastlopen van de motoren. Zie de episodes van vorig jaar.
Bij 2 motoren is de SB motor met een rechtse en de BB motor met een linkse schroef uitgerust (meestal). Merk je dat je iets moet tegensturen met 1 motor?

Hoi Henk, Ja ook dit was weer een gezellige show van jou en een lange in vergelijk met woensdag heerlijk, van de Juliana sluizen over de Hollandse Ijssel en met mooi weer richting Breda iemand langs de IJssel die aan het droog varen is hoop dat deze een mooie fantasie heeft en dat hij een eind komt 😉eindelijk de stroom mee en op 1 motor dat scheelt. Daag Henk, I really enjoy your videos, and happy to see that Lady Liselot is back in good shape after your engine issues 😃 I’m myself contemplating buying a fluvial boat (smaller though) and your films have told me 2 things so far : 1- one can sail for years on the rivers and canals of Netherland and Belgium without getting bored.. 2-a VHF radio is really a must in order to get through all the locks and bridges easily. Best of luck for this summer 😊
Regarding #2, still I see people without VHF. Most bridges have good cameras or a “press to call for opening” button and ignorance of what happens around you sometimes is a special thing.

As with many things in life: when do you stop and when is the best to continue what you are doing? Also in this case the boat could handle it. She would have arrived on the spot as planned, but the crew became uncertain. Again… as in real life.

I for one would like to hear more about what you see when cruising along. Your comment on the fuel/water boat is a good example, that's interesting but I would like to know more. Do you have to be moored to take advantage of their service or can you do a "replenishment at sea" exercise? It would also be nice to have some details about that huge lift bridge in Dordrecht, and what was that futuristic building at the end of this Wednesday's vlog? Was it the vessel traffic management centre you were talking to on the VHF?
